Meet Ms. Chrissy

My name is Chrissy Andersen, and I am honored and excited to be the Principal of Renaissance Expeditionary Magnet School! As an educator and lifelong learner, I believe that thriving schools are built on a foundation of trusting relationships, empathy, and community. At REMS, my focus is ensuring that Crew stays at the heart of everything we do: learning, growing, and supporting one another side by side so that every student, family, and staff member feels seen, heard, and valued.

My journey in education has taken me through almost every corner of a school building. I discovered my love for global learning while supporting students as a paraprofessional in reading intervention, and during a wonderful year spent working in a kindergarten classroom in Spain. From there, I spent eight years sharing my love of language as a middle and high school Spanish teacher before transitioning into instructional coaching and school leadership. I earned both my Bachelor’s degree in Spanish and my Master’s degree in Educational Leadership and Policy Studies from the University of South Florida, and most recently served families right here in Douglas County as an Assistant Principal. Through every step of my career, my favorite part of the day has always been the exact same: being present in classrooms, listening to students' stories, and celebrating their daily successes.

Outside of the school day, my family keeps me grounded and inspired. My husband, Tim, and I share our home with two high-energy dogs, Chili and Bandit, who keep us laughing and active. To bring calm and balance into everyday life, you can usually find me outdoors, gardening, practicing yoga, cycling, hiking, or creating plant-based wellness products.

Some of my absolute favorite things include morning coffee, a good matcha latte, fresh flowers, cozy books, and spending time in nature. My door is always open, and I am looking forward to partnering with you as we navigate this school year together!
