My Favorite Things

Meet Ms. Kristen

Hello everyone, my name is Kristen Nein and I am excited to be returning to the Crew at Renaissance Expeditionary Magnet School!

I received my undergraduate degree in Wildlife Biology from Colorado State University and spent many years working as a field biologist. My love of science, and talking about science, led me to go back to school to get my Master’s Degree in Curriculum and Instruction from the University of Colorado, majoring in Science Education with an emphasis in Experiential Education. I started my teaching career with the National Park Service education program, and then began taking science into elementary schools as a science specialist. I have taught all grades from Kindergarten to college, including teaching 4th grade at REMS, and was a long-term substitute in 5th grade. I am now thrilled to be teaching 6th grade at REMS.

I live in Castle Rock with my wonderful husband and three amazing children. All of our children attended or still attend REMS, and I am passionate about the principles that REMS develops in its students and staff. We have 2 dogs, 1 cat, a bearded dragon, and a ball python at home. Outside of teaching I enjoy gardening, rock hunting, bird watching, paddle boarding, reading, watching sci-fi movies, and traveling with my family.

I strive to make our classroom an environment where students can grow and thrive personally and academically. When my students leave my classroom at the end of the year, my goal is for them to have the tools and confidence they need to be successful in the next leg of their journey and beyond.
