My Favorite Things

Meet Ms. Marissa

Hello, My name is Marissa Carlstrom (Miss Carlstrom) and I am very excited to be joining the Renaissance team this year as a Learning specialist and math interventionist. I can’t wait to meet all of the amazing students and family that I will have the opportunity to work with this school year.

A little bit about me, I grew up in a big extended Italian family, being the one of the youngest of the first cousins and the oldest of the second cousins, so I was always babysitting all of the little cousins. I have been babysitting since I was 12 years old outside of the family and have been working with kids ever since. I have a bachelor's degree in early childhood education, and a master’s degree in special education with a focus on Autism Spectrum Disorder. I am a Colorado native who grew up in the Douglas County School District and I’m beyond excited to be rejoining the DCSD community as an educator. This will be my sixth year in education, but my first year as an interventionist and learning specialist. I have taught Kindergarten, first and second grade, but I was ready for a change after completing my Master’s and look forward to beginning this new position.

Outside of teaching I love to travel the world whenever I can. I have been to 10 countries, including Thailand, Italy, England, Ireland, Germany, Switzerland, France, Greece, Netherlands, and Austria, and will be traveling to Japan next summer. I have a 9 year old boxer pup named Aria who I have had since she was only 10 days old, and my parents have a 5 year old boxer named Charlie. I am the oldest child of two with a younger brother who is getting married this month. I love to be outdoors, whether I am camping, hiking, or just in the mountains somewhere. I love photography and anything arts related (painting, drawing, singing, and crafting mostly).

I can’t wait to meet you all and work alongside you this school year.
